Civic Commitment – A Driving Force for Sustainable Development

In the tradition of its founder, the Ernst Freiberger Foundation takes responsibility for common welfare.
It is based on the firm conviction that entrepreneurship and civic commitment are driving forces for social progress. By means of academic research the Ernst Freiberger Foundation aims to identify challenges society has to meet and intends to implement exemplary solutions from an early stage onwards.

The Ernst Freiberger Foundation represents an independent initiative that has an autonomous conceptual framework and is not attached to any political party. Placing confidence in the sustainable effect of its manifold societal commitment, the foundation focuses its activities on memorialisation, integrating elderly people into social life as well as furthering issues that will be decisive for society’s ability to cope with the future. The Ernst Freiberger Foundation advocates a society, shaped by lively citizen-participation as well as the responsibility assumed by entrepreneurs. Its aim is to contribute to advancing international agreement and understanding.

The most obvious marks of this commitment are the monuments erected by the Ernst Freiberger Foundation on the “Road of Recollection” in Berlin. With these monuments, the Ernst Freiberger Foundation intends to honour personalities who, in the first half of the past century, have stood out and resisted the regime’s random use of power. These individuals excelled either in terms of exceptional academic achievement, valuable contributions to the fields of art and culture in Germany or by courageous and selfless deeds. The unveiling of the monuments is accompanied by extensive academic research. The “Sunflower Meeting Point” encourages elderly people who are lonely but mobile to lead an active and rewarding life. The “Amerang Dispute”, directed by renowned German social scientist Professor Dr. Meinhard Miegel, represents the foundation’s commitment to academic research on issues like unemployment, religion or the role of the family, all of which are crucial for society’s development.
