Love of Life in Old Age
Making contacts and keeping in touch with others, working and engaging in a creative mode, keeping pace with the modern world and counterbalancing incipient loneliness in old age – the “Sunflower Meeting Point”, established by the Ernst Freiberger Foundation, is a venue for elderly people where openness and cooperation take centre stage.
The centre offers a wide selection of courses including foreign language tuition, computer skills, singing lessons, courses on literature and history, memory training, brainwalking and other classes of physical exercise. In addition, there are new events on a monthly basis. All of these offers encourage and support participants to lead an active, independent life for the longest time possible. With the “Moabit Bridge”, a series of events that provides a forum for personalities from the fields of politics, science and culture who take a stand on current issues, the programme has been further extended. Moreover, the centre promotes a “dialogue between the generations” by means of encounters with younger people, including pupils and students. An in-house newspaper, the “Sunflower Papers”, is a source of information for everything that goes on at the centre.
